Application Process

Applications are submitted electronically by the candidate or the Department of the institution where the candidate intends to pursue (or is currently pursuing) doctoral study.

The following steps outline the process.

Rules & Regulations

  • The candidate’s degree (ME, MTech, MS, or MSc) is in engineering sciences or applied health sciences from a nationally recognized or accredited public or private university in India.
  • The candidate is planning to OR actively conducting research at a degree-conferring institution of higher learning.
  • The candidate’s proposed research addresses at least one of the program’s supported human movement science focus areas: Engineering Sciences or Applied Health Sciences
  • The candidate’s Research Proposal specifies the use of Delsys EMG equipment
  • The candidate has identified and confirmed which pathway they are applying under and meets all criteria for that pathway: Pathway A (Direct Entry) or Pathway B (Prior Research Experience)
  • If applying under Pathway A, the candidate has been accepted into a PhD program within the past 12 months of graduation.
  • If applying under Pathway B, the candidate has been actively working on an ongoing research project in an established Applied Neuromuscular Research facility for a minimum of 12 months.
  • The candidate can demonstrate financial need and has arranged for their institution’s Dean to attest to this in the application.
  • The candidate has secured a PhD supervisor who is prepared to submit a letter of support on their behalf.
  • Each submission must represent a single candidate only.
  • Applications may be submitted by the candidate directly or by their department on the candidate’s behalf. A department submitting on behalf of multiple candidates must submit a separate, complete application package for each candidate.
  • An individual candidate may submit multiple applications. Multiple candidates from the same institution may also apply.
  • The candidate must use the provided Access to Science Application Package.
    • The Research Proposal and Candidate Biosketch must be completed using the official documents provided in the Access to Science Application Package. The document structure must not be altered and no sections may be removed.
    • The Department Letter must be written on official university or departmental letterhead — not the provided template form. The Department Letter template outlines the required topics that the letter must address.
  • All documents must be submitted electronically via the De Luca Foundation application portal at delucafoundation.org/access-to-science/application by 30 September 2026.
